Things what’re on my feeble mind at dark:45

Quoting Vanderleun, quoting Rowan Williams:
“The real question, John [of the Cross] suggests, is about what you are really after: Do you want ‘spirituality’, mystical experience, inner peace, or do you want God?
Struggle, struggle. Am I close to God? Even in the same ZIP code? A non-small voice in my head says, “If you have to ask…”, and then what? Struggle.

The thing to remember is that Mother Teresa felt very far from God for most of her life: hungered for God, but felt he was no where in sight. So just because you have to ask whether you’re close to God doesn’t mean you’re not. (It doesn’t me you are, either, of course.)
Proximity matters not; belief matters. Denominations are irrelevant; prayers work. We are mortal but the universe has wonders we hardly understand and likely never will. Yet, we can see that complexity. We can’t see the Creator. We can however walk where his Son walked. So I believe and belief sustains me.
The question asked is a good one and each of us can only answer individually as it relates to ourselves.
I’ve felt far and I’ve felt close… however… the one thing that really matters regardless of what your particular answer to the question is at any point in time… irrespective of whether we feel near or far.. is that God is close to us… and always will be.
Life is funny…all three of you boys have been important to me in spiritual matters in some way, shape or form. I’m blessed.
