Our Long National Nightmare Will Continue Indefinitely

Posted by TFG on November 5th, 2012

I guarantee you that tomorrow, at some point, some asshole, on some network, is going to say something earnest about What It Means for 2016. And we’ll start all over with swing states and undecideds.

I personally endorse this view:

I mean, really, why does everyone believe the president is the leader of our country? What he is, is the head of our government, i.e., he is the leader of the least part of our country. We have two groups in America: the people who work hard and create businesses and jobs and all the things that make our country great, and the screw-ups who get in the way of that. Government is by far the greatest force of the latter. So why do we as citizens think the guy we put in charge of the government and all the bureaucrats — “King Idiot,” basically — is our leader? That’s like saying a pothole is in charge of the road.

I don’t care if you go vote tomorrow. You’re a grown-up, you make the call. To all those people who say something along the lines of “you can’t complain if you don’t vote” — you’re wrong, unless this election also repeals the First Amendment, which it ain’t. I didn’t vote for any fooking catfish inspectors, and I’m complaining about that. See how that free speech dealio works?

Matters not who is president. Either guy is an incrementalist facing a problem set that requires dramatic changes. So we’ll get nibbling around the edge change while most of the important problems get kicked down the road. Only important consideration is troops in the field. The president has a large say in what they do or don’t do (rules of engagement and such) and my brother is still in uniform. So I’m kind of hoping the current CINC gets relieved for cause!

I think I can summarize my feelings about the election this way..

Re-Electing Obama is like backing up the Titanic and hitting the iceberg again. Electing Romney is like changing course in order to hit a different iceberg. Do we… (the common, non-illegal, resident, taxpaying, hard working, productive citizen) come out better off with either one of them winning ??? … er… no
