Sorry about the news there pard. Andy sent me the news and link. I lost the wifey to lung cancer a few years back. Not a good road to go down; but not so bad with friends and hospice. I just lost my dad to pancreatic cancer. Now that shit was rough! My thoughts are with you and I’ll keep the ole tip jar in mind as funds come in. Hang in there.

We never kept in touch over the years but I’ve checked in here once in a while since I heard about your site. I’ve enjoyed reading your insights and I appreciate that you introduced me to Was (Not Was), among others.

Don’t let this suck the wind out of your sails. Now is not the time for that. I know it’s a bitch of a diagnosis but it can be beat. If my scrawny old 66 year old dad can do it you can do it, too. You’ve got a helluva road ahead to be sure but know that it can be done. Dad turned 80 this past May.

I agree with everyone who mentioned MD Anderson. They saved my dad’s life when his own doctor had pretty much written him off. They did the same for my sister 35 years ago. They’re simply the best.

You’re in my thoughts and prayers.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in 1992. My family was told I had a few days. My surgeon said don’t believe it, believe that every case is different (it is) and so I turned to God, trusted the surgeon and oncologist, and lived by the words of my basic training sergeant, who, when training got rough, always said, “just take one more step.” Fat Man, I don’t know you, but take one more step every day, remember this moment is all we have, and fight the oderous cancer bastard with all your might. Medics still can’t give accurate prognoses. Will pray for you.

From a fellow traveler: My lung cancer was diagnosed in November. Dreaded “small cell” but caught very early & rare in that it was discovered post OP by the lab as part of a (mixed) more tame tumor that was removed. Rarer still in that no sign of metastasis to date. Still, the s_it can hit the fan at any time even after (prophilactic)chemo. Two tips: 1) Treated at Sloan Kettering, one of the best, BUT; you MUST stay on top of them. Too easy to fall between the cracks. 2) One of their docs sent me reprints of info they use. I went to that website http://www.update.com and for about $40 got unlimited access for 30 days. Amazing wealth of info at your fingertips. Get educated! Best of luck….to us both.

Tough hand to have dealt to you, but ya got to play with the cards as they lay. I had a big c diagnosis (no symptoms, just a good Doc)
had the robotic thing done (different than your case), and all is well for now.
Do what the the docs say, and you’ll be alright; they be doin’ some amazing things these days, Scott.
If you need anything north of Big D (Denton) let me know.

So sorry to hear this news…haven’t met you but saw the link on Facebook…

Anyway, my mom finished chemo last week for a different type of cancer, but we found blogforacure.org was a GREAT site. Broken down by type and you can connect with people who have the same type of cancer you have. Great for support but more for knowledge and tips.

Good luck to you…from reading the other comments, sounds like you are a guy that will be able to beat this!

I’ve had cancer. Not as bad as yours. I got one thing I learned: Attitude. It’s the only thing you can control. It’s also a contributing factor in survival. I had folks thinking I was acting like I won the lottery when i was at my low ebb. Do what you can. I’ll pray for you.
