Site Query

Posted by TFG on July 1st, 2010

You know, this joint looks like it hasn’t been touched, design-wise, in about four hundred years. The reason for that is that it hasn’t. Been touched.

Should I even mess with it? Add some of that new whizbang technology that I routinely do for the paying customer?

Your opinions matter…all seven or eight of you…

  1. I’m kind of going through the same process, mostly because I’d like to centralize 4 or 5 blogs that I semi-maintain. I’m not making much headway because I can’t convince myself that the time invested in learning all the crap I’d have to learn is really worth it.

I think the best reason to do it would be if you were just intellectually interested in doing something different. If you did it, I’d drop by and say that the new design or whatever looked cool but that would happen exactly once. Is it worth it intellectually to you to spend X hours on it? That’s the real question. I’m going to come by and read your stuff regardless of what the site looks like.

Those are my greatly overvalued $.02.

I don’t think prettying up your blog is your style. heh. Cmon Gruff Texan is you right? Like Scotch said though if you get some enjoyment out of doing it go ahead.

  3. Phelps says:

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

  4. John says:

I like it as is, but my opinion might change depending on what geegaws you’re considering. I kind of like the one that pulls and displays pictures of hot redhead (alleged) spies. Just sayin.

  5. Andy says:

Nah. Whizz bang is for Facebook and Twitter. Billy Joe doesn’t do whizz bang now does he?

  6. TFG says:

See, now, if I was a good programmer, I would have already coded the app to pull in the hot redhead spy pictures automatically. If I’d known this was how it was going to have turned out, I would have kept coding. I’m pedaling hard to keep up.

Andy, I think we should ask the guy with the bullet in his cheek whether Billy Joe does (100% percent correct, in my view) whizbang. I kind of feel bad that I never wrote that up, now that you mention it.

  7. CGHill says:

If you like it, stick with it. Doesn’t get any more complicated than that.

  8. paul (not ron) says:

I say keep as is. It doesn’t need any MacDinking.

  9. Bill Quick says:

I think the last time I changed Daily Pundit was when I added that “Never Forgive, Never Forget” picture of the burning towers to the masthead. The only complaints I’ve had since were from a couple of lefty drivebys who sneered at the “amateurish” presentation, on their way to other venues.

TFG, you know how old men are about change, your site always feels familiar and comfortable, but it is yours,so do what you want to,and I’ll still come visit you. Hope everybody had a good 4th.

Good point about change & old men, Diller. That’s definitely me.

Survey says no design change. Nice.

I might add some Facebook/Twitter bling.

  11. Form follows function. Spend the time on content rather than format.

Change for change sake is a bad idea. It can even be annoying.
