The Waylon

Posted by TFG on 11th June 2009

Kevin’s mama got me started on Waylon this evening, so blame her.

This is my favorite probably of all time that’s not an enormous hit:

I think I could sing that, and I can’t sing at all. “Lord, put a handle on a simple-headed man, help me leave that black rose alone.” Yeah.

Louise sent me this one – I’ve Always Been Crazy. Again, yeah:

Not to beat that dead horse too much, but I think this song is just plain awesome – again, kind of a Yeah – Loneseome, Ornry and Mean:

Where’s the new Waylon, anyway? Seriously, who can even come close to this? Maybe tomorrow night I’ll do me a Billy Joe “Where do you want it?” Shaver retrospective? Or not. I’m gonna go see Ryan Bingham, who’s got a shot at the next Waylon, but he sings too high, but his songs are Waylon songs. Really, not kidding here, check him out, buy his albums.

Can’t believe I forgot this – Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?

A total two-handed middle finger to Nashville. Probably one of the greatest songs ever done. The old classic Waylon stomp. Never fails to make me grin and get my back all up over whatever’s in front of me.

BTW, here’s my favorite modern version of the Waylon Stomp - Opie Hendrix, Shoulda Known Better:

Administration, Congress seek to rein in exec pay – Yahoo! Finance

Gene Sperling, a top counselor to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, conceded to a congressional committee that imposing compensation caps on companies could lead to a flight of talent.

“I can say with certainty that nobody in the Obama administration is proposing such a thing,” he said.

Yet, at the same time, he and officials with the Federal Reserve and the Securities and Exchange Commission laid out a case for how payment structures rewarded short-term gains at the expense of long-term performance and contributed to the nation’s financial crisis.

The administration plans to seek legislation that would try to rein in compensation at publicly traded companies through nonbinding shareholder votes and by decreasing management influence on pay decisions.

Yall voted this Marxist into office, not me. I tried to tell you for two years that this is what you were gonna get. I hope you’re happy with where you’re at now, because where ever you are, that’s the top of the ladder for you. Get used to it.

Alternatively, get your Chapstick on and polish up your nose, because that’s what it’s gonna be from here on out — ass-kissing and brown-nosing. Incentive and motivation, those timeless Amercian guarantees, that ain’t gonna get you much.

I’m just left wondering when the hell people are going to wake up to the reality. It’s not that hard. I barely got out of Mesquite High School. I can see it, so it’s just not that hard.

UPDATE: I always forget this part, being raised as I was, I tend to think of it as kind of the default way America works. Stupid me:

Where in the US Constitution is the power to do this granted to the federal government?

Answer: Nowhere.
