Broadband Politics | Dancing with the Scientists

Six weeks ago, the Gonzo Scientist challenged researchers around the world to interpret their Ph.D. research in dance form, film the dance, and share it with the world on YouTube

Isaac Newton and William Shakespeare would be so proud of us. Thanks, Dick.

Marine Makes Insurgents Pay the Price

“The biggest thing to take from that day is what Marines can accomplish when they’re given the opportunity to fight,” the sniper said. “A small group of Marines met a numerically superior force and embarrassed them in their own backyard. The insurgents told the townspeople that they were stronger than the Americans, and that day we showed them they were wrong.”

During the battle, the designated marksman single handedly thwarted a company-sized enemy RPG and machinegun ambush by reportedly killing 20 enemy fighters with his devastatingly accurate precision fire. He selflessly exposed himself time and again to intense enemy fire during a critical point in the eight-hour battle for Shewan in order to kill any enemy combatants who attempted to engage or maneuver on the Marines in the kill zone. What made his actions even more impressive was the fact that he didn’t miss any shots, despite the enemies’ rounds impacting within a foot of his fighting position.

“I was in my own little world,” the young corporal said. “I wasn’t even aware of a lot of the rounds impacting near my position, because I was concentrating so hard on making sure my rounds were on target.”

Being who I am, I want to know what the hell he was shooting to go 20 for 20. Snipers get some good equipment, God love ‘em. But it’s the “I was in my own little world” part that grabs me and shakes me. That’s Audie Murphy territory.

We are a blessed people.

TFG Looks Forward to Lots of Stuff

Gorbachev Looks Forward to New U.S. Policy Under Obama - FOXNews.com Transition Tracker

MOSCOW — Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev said Thursday that the overwhelming election of Barack Obama shows that Americans want change, and he called on the incoming president to extend his promised changes to U.S. relations with Russia and Iran.

I guess this is kind of the same thing as interviewing Jimmy Carter or some pickled Senate majority leader from 3 decades ago. Pointless, unfulfilling, and tedious but it has to be done. Kind of the press in a nutshell - they’ve got a template, and by God, they’re going to fill it.

Is there a single person in America who gives a shit what Gorby has to say at this late date, anyway? Guy’s been pounding vodka and over-the-hill gymnasts for 15 years now. As he should be.

I think it’s safe to say I don’t much care anymore

Posted by TFG on 27th November 2008

Because, personally, I’m gonna be fine.

I worry about the old folks and about the little babies but mostly about the old folks. Because I understand how hard it is to adapt.

Meanwhile, here’s some Bob Newhart for you:

I’m Thankful for Bill Cosby

Posted by TFG on 25th November 2008

I came home from a few quick snorts at the Bitter Old Guy Lounge, and found a Bill Cosby movie on, where he talks about boozing:

I haven’t laughed so hard in years. I need to find this on DVD — the super-funny stuff is when he gets to being a parent.

Seriously, I’m thankful I grew up with this guy around. It frightens me how much he influenced me, still, to this day.

Perhaps someone can explain this to me, too

Posted by TFG on 24th November 2008

Craig Henry, who should really write more, grasps the nettle - I quote in full, with all apologies for being a jerk, but it’s an important part of this whole media-driven Nervous Nellie discussion about the death of conservatism:

Perhaps someone can explain this to me

Right after the 9/11 attacks, Ann Coulter wrote an over the top column that called for vigorous action against the terrorists and their supporters. “We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.”

That was too much for National Review and the magazine eventually stopped running Coulter’s column.

In Coulter’s defense, her rant was written in the immediate aftermath of an atrocity and Coulter lost friends in the attack.

Nonetheless, Naional Review felt compelled to distance itself from Coulter for her insulting attacks on Muslims. Perfectly defensible.

Now, fast forward seven years. There is no terrorist attack, but the Republicans lose a hard fought election. One Kathleen Parker writes a series of columns attacking social conservatives and Evangelical Christians.

Somehow, Parker remains in good standing with National Review. They still run her column despite its bigotry towards the very conservatives that NR presumes to lead.

Oogedy-boogedy, in the words of Miss Parker. Mrs. Parker. WTFever.

See, there seriously is a disconnect between the so-called house organs, and the people they are selling organs to. Personally, I don’t know when it will reconnect, if it’s possible, or will something replace it? It’s about time for one of those.

Personally, I never subscribed to NR and I read it only irregularly. It reminds me too much of the things I dislike about all media — that incestuous circle-jerk of trust-fund English majors. In their defense, they have a large share of people typing for them who aren’t that way. Christopher Buckley, on the other hand, is so far ahead of the example pack, they’ve already called the race.

In Obama aura, some can see defining eras | Philadelphia Inquirer | 11/23/2008

Each year at this time, he said, he tries to explain to his three sons just how much it all meant to him, and how much was lost.

It probably never occurs to this idiot that nobody, most especially his sons, really cares what it might have meant to him or how much he lost (?!?!?! — lost? rly?).

I detest being associated in any way, shape, or form with such selfish assholes. Your job, you moron, is to raise the next generation with good guidance. You’re a failure as a parent if you think the assasination of JFK has a single molecule of bearing on what is happening on the ground in America today. Good grief, get over yourself, and quickly.

Things like this perk me up these days

Posted by TFG on 22nd November 2008

Andrew Muse:

…our business may be significantly impacted by the failure of capitalism…
It is pretty frustrating out there, but don’t let it get your down. Look for the opportunities in the problems you see. If credit is tightening what sort of businesses will be successful? If the government is going to print trillions of dollars focused on public works what sort of business will be successful? Don’t fight reality, instead embrace it.

I have to admit it — I’m down. I see naught but enormous trouble ahead.

But Andrew’s right. I simply have to become better at doing what a Marine told me once (happens to be the same guy who taught me about kayaks and rivers and a lot of other stuff): Adapt, improvise, and overcome.

Hometown Community Organizing

Posted by TFG on 18th November 2008

Hispanic-owned small businesses in San Antonio have been reluctant to talk about the health care of their workers and their community. Some even went as far as to hide in the back of their shops to keep from talking to Rey Ramirez, director of healthy families for the Texas Community Health Network and Health is Natural Wealth.

Speaking at the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce 3rd annual Healthcare Summit, Ramirez said he and a group of promotoras made their way through the West Side in an attempt to interview 250 small businesses about wellness programs and talking to their employees about healthy eating. After much cajoling, they only managed to get about 75 responses.

Get used to this kind of gummint-grant garbage with Obammy in the WH.

Frankly, I’m shocked that 3 out of 10 bothered to talk to this busybody asshole. “talk to their employees about healthy eating” — please.

Welcome to Your Next Attorney General

Posted by TFG on 18th November 2008

03-02-00: WEEKLY MEDIA BRIEFING WITH DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL ERIC HOLDER THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE THURSDAY, MARCH 2, 2000

We know that there is not one simple answer, and we know that there is nothing we can do that will prevent every single crime or act of violence. But we also know that there are some common-sense things that we can do and that we must do. And so I want to add my voice to those who are calling on Congress to finally — to finally — pass these very common-sense gun measures:

* First, to require child safety locks for all handguns that are sold.

* Second, to ban violent juveniles from ever having the ability to own guns.

* Third, to pass the president’s handgun licensing proposal, which requires safety certification for all handgun purchasers.

* Fourth, to support research in smart gun technology which can limit a gun’s use to its authorized owner.

And finally, to close the gun show loophole by requiring a background check for all gun purchases at gun shows.

Happy now, you Obamidiots?

Gun sales, already going through the roof before the sap is inaugurated, become stratospheric.

I’m starting the company armory this weekend. If I can find any guns to be sold, that is. This is Texas, we’re not idiots. We already had to do it once to a cocooned central government full of perfumed busybodies, and damn if we won’t do it again.

I have to watch fookin’ CNN and therefore hear the encephalitic Campbell Brown ignorantly spout off about how gas will be back to $4 a gallon” and the “cars that Detroit SHOULD be building.” Meaning electric Smart Car / Prius knock-offs. No mention of expanded drilling or exploration. None.

Piss off, you ignorant twit…find OFF button and CLICK. When I finish the two current broke-down project trucks in the back yard, I’m gonna get a 25 year-old diesel 4WD war wagon and rebuild it just to anger the greenies. I hate those Peak Oil shiver-in-the-dark assholes.
