Slampo’s Place: “Got to Get My Rest, ’Cause Monday is a Mess”
The addled and aimless lurking at the far fringes of McCain’s rallies are indeed scary
And they get all the press. Yay, journalism. The addled and aimless lurking at the heart of Mr. Obama’s entire life get scant play, but he’s a black guy from Chicago, so who, exactly, is gonna go there?
Fine, bring on my Maoist overlords. I lived thru Carter I. I was younger then, but I’m hungrier now, so it will probably even out. If it don’t, well, there’s always the great western desert.

U.S. gasoline price marks biggest drop ever -survey | Industries | Energy | Reuters
60 days ago, gas prices were the most important fucking thing on the planet. Nobody gives a shit now. They aren’t smart enough to realize that there were no bailouts to make sure gas prices went down. They damn sure aint’ smart enough to realize that gas prices went down when bailouts started over there somewhere else.
A shot recipe: The Bailout:
- some syrupy green liquor
- something clear, like vodka or rum
- the tears of 100 community organizers
Backed with 5 grains of black powder poured in a Lone Star.
Someone down on the Gulf needs to come up with the FEMA Check shot, and it better have crab juice in it.

Make more time to watch the baseball.
I told some other drunkard today that the Pokes are the only team I really love anymore, and that’s true, but man, there’s just nothing like baseball. Even a crappy game like tonight — Jamie Moyer (!!! of all people) got lit up early, and the Phils are down a lot, but they’re all scrapping and shit, and then the Jap pitcher for the Dodgers fires one at the head of a Phil, and there’s contretemps after they throw the Phil out, and Manny Fucking Ramirez shows his traditional Manny ass by being the Super Jumbo Dodger Badass, or so the teevee makes it seem, and Manny’s just fucking Manny, completely useless without a bat in his hand, and the stinking Dodgers win in front of one-half of the stands, and the home plate box is full of blonde teenage chicks on cell phones, and it’s so LA that I can just feel the Philly fans gritting their teeth at the Hollywoods living in the Torre bubble, and, well, tomorrow night.
Tomorrow night, I’ll watch some baseball. Man, baseball is just correct.
C’mon — Jamie Moyer? I had him on one of my first freaking strat-o-matic teams 30 or 40 years ago. Rock on, Jamie, you magnificent bastard.

Don’t You Want Me Baby? § Unqualified Offerings
On the other hand, Palin herself, as an individual, has a pattern of turning on benefactors, and she really does have different incentives than McCain. And the timing is interesting to contemplate. Remember the perennial conventional wisdom of presidential politics: play to the base in the primaries and the center in the general election. The public’s memory is short, and attention on the primaries by the general population is light. So if you say some “extreme” stuff over the winter or early spring, you’ve got months to walk it back to where the squishy center feels okay. McCain blew the timing this year, which is another reason he’s heading for defeat - since the base never reconciled to him, he had to pick the Lioness of Little Diomede in late summer to shore it up. (The irony being, McCain really was, I’m convinced, the best or second-best general-election candidate the GOP could have chosen this year. I could be convinced that Huckabee was better, but that’s really it. McCain came into the general election with every advantage except a party base he could count on.)
I love Henley for his enormous Brain. I really want to see how this plays out against his template. I think he’s as full of shit as the traditional Christmas goose…I read his stuff during the Malvo sniper phase…he’s as frightenable as any American he pokes a stick at. And probably more full of useless shit, because he’s a libertarian.
