Gobsmacked and disheartened

ABC News Edited Out Key Parts of Sarah Palin Interview | NewsBusters.org

A transcript of the unedited interview of Sarah Palin by Charles Gibson clearly shows that ABC News edited out crucial portions of the interview that showed Palin as knowledgeable or presented her answers out of context.

After six and half years of typing into the internet, this is utterly shocki…hey, look, there’s a lizard on the wall! And my fingernails need cleaning, too. What time does Loudon go off tomorrow? Gotta get the coffee pot set up, too.

What was I saying about journalists? Oh, yeah — they suck ass. In a general, overall sense — the same sense we flyovers are to them, an undistinguished mass. Hell, they can’t even bother to hide the heinous edits they made when they sent out the transcript.

Well, morons, we have people who can read on our side, too. They explain it to us dumbshits in little words, muy rapido, so we can’t get distracted by table saws or an American flag. Next time, I suggest you embargo or heavily edit the actual words spoken so that your narrative comes across away all the eggheads tell you it should.

Oh, just in case anyone read this far, Loudon starts at one, Texas time. I’m sure Race Day will be on at, like, 7am. Cowpokes are Monday night, against the hated Iggles. Did they make the playoffs last year? Can’t remember…

Just generally gross & filthy

Posted by TFG on 13th September 2008

If there’s a greasier, nastier, pisser of a job than changing out the transmission filter on an old Turbo-Hydromatic transmission, I don’t know what it is. I’ve done three of these in my lifetime, and every single time I was finished, I swore I’d never do it again.

This one was especially fun because the last two bolts on the pan were mostly covered up by the frame crosspiece that holds the entire transmission in place. So, to get to them, I had to loosen the mounting bolts and jack the stupid tranny up. Thank God for floor jacks. But it’s all done now, but only after spilling 1/2 of the fluid on the floor and 1/2 into the stupid green recycling pan.

That will never happen again, because I ordered a replacement pan that has a nice convenient drain plug, the way God, not the Chevy engineers, intended these things to be.

The whole project is coming along in fits and spurts. Once this trans is done, it’s pretty much the last of the major (hah!) things keeping it from being a regular runner. Got all the lamps working, except for the license plate lamps. I’ve got to do some wire checking to figure that out. I’m going to get the brakes done (by a real mechanic, not me) next so it will be inspectable. After that, it’s naught but general interior replace-or-repair stuff, some tedious wiring and re-wiring, maybe a new pawnshop radio, and then the engine jollies.

My engine genius, on the other hand, just got a new used Biesemeyer hydro hull from California and he’s going to be busy over the winter swapping the motor from the old hull, and setting it up for testing. They run big blocks — the current one is from Reher-Morrison up in Arlington — so there’s a distinct possibility there could be some random stuff that’s sitting on shelves that I might could use. At a minimum, Ray keeps talking about various Holley 4bbls on his bench that will drop right in. The cool thing is I get to be the guy handing him left-handed crescent wrenches and Miller Lites while he does this. Hell, I might just learn something, you never know.

Meantime, I’ve still got a 1989 F-150 small block / extended cab / long bed that runs pretty good, and I’m trying to decide what to do with it. I don’t have a 4wd or a golf cart, so maybe I can engineer a trade for one of those. Or a 4wd golf cart…that would be awesome.

Man, the things you do to keep out of the bars, huh?

The genius of John Cole

Spends many keystrokes and links to prove that the BHO ad about McCain not being tech-savvy is very much mistaken.

That was the McCain campaign, today. Is there anyone dumber than right wing bloggers?

Uhhh…formerly right-wing bloggers who provide a mountain of evidence that his favorite leftwing candidate just shot himself in the foot, again? “See, he can, too, use a blackberry.” Maybe I’m just too dumb to get the nuanced brilliance. That’s probably it.

From my sainted mama, viz Ike

Posted by TFG on 13th September 2008

The bolded part cracks me up.

I’m glad all’s well; we’re due some heavy winds and rain as the day and evening progress, and continuing rain into tomorrow, but not as bad as East Texas; of course, we’ve got Fellowship Dinner tomorrow, and since we’ve bought enough to serve Cox’s army, there’ll probably be about half the anticipated count, since the old folks won’t get out, but we’ll eat all we can and sell the rest; sure do wish we had some Blue Bell to go with it!

She’s 68.

People wonder why Governor Palin has taken the nation by storm. It’s simple - she’s like a lot of our mamas. Fronteir women, in their way.

Explanation of Cox’s Army (or Coxey’s, take your pick) here.

Did I dream this, or was I just too drinky?

Boozing yesterday at the local, one of the teevees* was tuned to a local channel with the sound down, and I could have sworn I saw a commercial for Verizon FIOS. Precisely nobody else at the bar understood what the heck a FIOS was, or why I might be excited about it. But a quick run thru the Google doesn’t turn up any PR about it coming to town. Anybody got any info?

Of course, I’ll be worm food long before it gets to me, anyway, I’m sure.

* All the rest were tuned to The Hurricane Ike Channel. Endless replays of water creeping surging up the docks of various marinas, and dippy reporters standing in the rain and wind. I’m still quite unclear on why this particular teevee shot is so necessary, but what else would the hand-wringers and hair-pullers do with themselves if it wasn’t on?
