If our politicians weren't on the Saudi dole, they could find lots of ways to influence purchase and sale, not to mention starting a crash program to build nuke plants immediately. Passing a law banning companies from buying Saudi oil, for instance, would work just fine. Sure it might be overturned, but that could take years. Political interference in markets isn't efficient, of course, but depending on who is leading the charge, it can be damned effective.
