Show was supposed to start at 10:00 (around my bedtime) but being a casual production, SCOTS didn't get cranking till about midnight-thirty. Even hours of standing up (no chairs--we rock here), nursing warm scotch (had to drive home), studiously not checking out the young talent (obvious) was worth it. That spare sound of theirs translates exactly live. Highlight: When the lead singer fired a crispy chicken thigh into the crowd during 8-piece Box, the hot little brunette in front of us instinctively ducked and the chicken nailed my wife right in forehead. Staggered, stunned, a bit of grease trickling down her nose, she still managed to graciously acknowledge the envy of the crowd around us. Yes, "You got the chicken!" was actually murmered admiringly. Did I mention it was LOUD?--I mean peeling your forehead back like a bald man loud, I mean feeling you shirt buttons buzz against your chest loud. Wobbled out onto Peachtree Street about 3:00 a.m. feeling like I'd done 500 miles of interstate with my head hanging out of a convertible. Great show. Oldsters still rock! Makes me wish I was young and good looking enough to go on a hunt. Problem is, you so damn rarely find this kind of stuff being played live. It's almost always a disappointment.
