Patriot missile batteries and phalanx guns on ships have been in use for many years. IIRC, the Army has something that detects incoming fire and using the calculated trajectory returns fire before the impact of the incoming round. It is all just a matter of getting the energy source and payload sufficient to haul the barrels and ammo around. Heck, the drones already have this down without the trouble of climbing of heaps of rubble. Seeing these things moving from battlefields to civilian areas for law enforcement is a little scary though. Oh, and the robotic guns have been around for a while.
