Spanish king tells Chavez to ’shut up’ - Yahoo! News
Chavez repeatedly tried to interrupt, but his microphone was off.
Spanish King Juan Carlos, seated next to Zapatero, angrily turned to Chavez and said, “Why don’t you shut up?”
That’s pretty hilarious — a king bowing up to a tin-pot dictator.
It’s kind of funny, too, that it happened at a “summit of leaders from Latin America, Spain and Portugal.” Aren’t all those peoples free of the chains of empire these days? Or do they just like summiting?
Has the Bolivarian Mini-Me declared himself El Jefe Forever yet? I lose track.

What a weird world where in 2007 it takes a monarch to tell a thug to shut up.

I’m not one to support a monarchy, especially in this day and age, but I want to make two comments:
1. Spain has a monarchy which, similar to Britain’s is largely, although not exclusively symbolic. It’s not an issue of submission as much as one of tradition.
2. Understanding that their role is mostly symbolic, it’s important to mention that the royal family of Spain have rarely, if ever, made themselves a part of the debate. It’s kind of like our special deal with the monarchy, where we the citizens say “OK, we’ll let you stay” and they say “Thanks! …we won’t embarrass you or get in the way”. Now, having said that, I have to mention that even though I don’t support the monarchy, I am VERY proud of our king for what he did and what he said …and especially for the way he said it.
Tired of the “Chavez Show” — the one he’s been pulling for years, the one where he takes advantage of the diplomacy that other countries extend to him by incessantly casting insults at world events, the king, tired of all the BS and unbound by political niceties, only said what everyone else in the room at the time was thinking. “Why don’t you shut up?”

Someone needs to have the attitude toward Chavez that General George Patton had toward Adolf Hitler, that he would personally shoot the little paper-hanging son of a bitch, like you’d shoot a dog or a snake. In fact, that would cure a lot of irritating third-world types of their ills, IMHO, but then I guess I’m an atavistic, retrograde throwback to another era, or something.
I wonder if Slim Whitman’s “Una Paloma Blanca” is really based on the end of the Portuguese dictatorship in 1974, as wikipedia claims. If so, that’s just whacky. I don’t know that they are any better off, though.
The Europeans would benefit from some American influence after their third-world invaders get so bad we have to invade ‘em (I’m thinking WWI or WWII-type conflict here)and save their bacon once again. I predict that we’ll have ‘em all dressing like some melange of Kid Rock, Ted Nugent, and Hank Williams, Jr., eating biscuits and gravy, playing baseball, and driving full-size diesel crew-cab pickups, cranking up the Bob Wills, attending evangelical mega-churches, and generally acting like sensible middle-Amerricuns, instead of effect sissy-folk, but old habits die hard, so maybe not.
But back to the point, glad the Spanish head-magoo said what he did, Chavez is a goof and needs to be called out as such.
