Nutty Hockey

I missed this last night because I was out playing poker against a bunch of well-heeled lawyers: an empty-net miss followed with a game-tying goal:

I’m simply going to have to dig deep and pay out for the satellite hockey package once I get moved in down in SA. I’m going nuts not having the Stars on the toob everytime they play. All they have down there is the Spurs and that’s all anyone talks about, besides the Cowboys. Basketball is interesting only at playoff time and as aural wallpaper during the regular season, and the Pokes provide approximately 3 hours of escapism per week during their four-month season. The good news is that SA does have a minor-league hockey team, at least. Minor league hockey was all I ever knew before the Stars got here, so I’m sure I’ll be happy with the hand-me-down Zamboni and the rodeo arena.
Whoops — they play at the Spurs gymnasium. Of course, they want $24 per ducat…for minor-league effing hockey. [sigh] I have a sinking feeling it’s going to be a sterile, shiny, uber-corporate NBA environment. I’m going to give it a shot, but I don’t expect much. I hate the new arenas — I predict pounding music every opportunity, lots of seizure-inducing flashing video boards, and chucklehead PA announcers.
