The World Just Got a Lot Less Funkier

The Godfather of Soul has passed on.
UPDATED WITH BEST LINE I READ SOMEWHERE AND I’M PARAPHRASING HERE: “Of course, Death had to chase James at high speeds across the Georgia state line and shoot out all four tires on his pickup truck with a shotgun and then follow James driving for three miles on rims throwing sparks before Death actually took him.” Wish I could remember where, but I’bve had some Christmas cocktails. God bless you, James, for all you gave to us skinny, useless white boys. We will miss you.
JB BACKGROUND UPDATE: Mr. Hill of Dustbury fame does a beautiful writeup of James’ career from a record and label standpoint. Chuck’s stuff opens up a whole new window on the man.
ObYouTube UPDATE: I’m having some 21st Century fun trawling the PeeeblesVideo. This one is by far my favorite. Watched it a thousand million times on MTV back in the day. Always loved this song anyway for it’s over-the-top patriotism, and it fuckiing kills with the horns, man. Kinda ties in with the newest Rocky movie. Love these lines: All-night diners/keep you awake/on black coffee/and a hard roll and You may not be/looking for the promised land/but you might find it, anyway

Horrible news. The man was a force. He was the King of Funk. No one moved Like James Brown

We need a James Brown revival party! How about it, Otis?

The James Brown wig is somewhere in the garage in a box. Wouldn’t we be a sight now doing “Night Train”?

Nothing better than a James Brown party. Please, Please Please,. Sex Machine… Get on Up!
I loved the way he named his songs. My all time favorite was “Baby let a man get up and fix the pop corn.”
Get on the good foot….Take it to the bridge….let’s hit and quit

Then there was the time James Brown appeared at the Grand Ole Opry.
I didn’t know this either; it came down a listserv this morning. Apparently it was in 1979:
The Country Music Hall of Fame is said to have an audio tape of the performance.

Video of that would be priceless. There’s got to be a way to pry it out.
