The World Just Got a Lot Less Funkier

The Godfather of Soul has passed on.
UPDATED WITH BEST LINE I READ SOMEWHERE AND I’M PARAPHRASING HERE: “Of course, Death had to chase James at high speeds across the Georgia state line and shoot out all four tires on his pickup truck with a shotgun and then follow James driving for three miles on rims throwing sparks before Death actually took him.” Wish I could remember where, but I’bve had some Christmas cocktails. God bless you, James, for all you gave to us skinny, useless white boys. We will miss you.
JB BACKGROUND UPDATE: Mr. Hill of Dustbury fame does a beautiful writeup of James’ career from a record and label standpoint. Chuck’s stuff opens up a whole new window on the man.
ObYouTube UPDATE: I’m having some 21st Century fun trawling the PeeeblesVideo. This one is by far my favorite. Watched it a thousand million times on MTV back in the day. Always loved this song anyway for it’s over-the-top patriotism, and it fuckiing kills with the horns, man. Kinda ties in with the newest Rocky movie. Love these lines: All-night diners/keep you awake/on black coffee/and a hard roll and You may not be/looking for the promised land/but you might find it, anyway
