U.S. Senate majority leader calls for efforts to bring Taliban into Afghan government

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Monday that the Afghan guerrilla war can never be won militarily and called for efforts to bring the Taliban and their supporters into the Afghan government.

The Tennessee Republican said he had learned from briefings that Taliban fighters were too numerous and had too much popular support to be defeated by military means.

“You need to bring them into a more transparent type of government,” Frist said during a brief visit to a U.S. and Romanian military base in the southern Taliban stronghold of Qalat. “And if that’s accomplished we’ll be successful.”

Frist said asking the Taliban to join the government was a decision to be made by Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

Sen. Mel Martinez, a Republican from Florida accompanying Frist, said negotiating with the Taliban was not “out of the question” but that fighters who refused to join the political process would have to be defeated.

“A political solution is how it’s all going to be solved,” he said.

Sorry, fellow conservatives, but these guys are goddamned Republicans. Bad enough we, America, have gotten only nominal air cover from our friends on the other side of the aisle, but when the Senate Majority Leader says shit like this, it’s time for all of them to go. Every. Single. Incumbent.

Negotiating with the fucking Taliban most certainly IS out of the question. And if it’s not to some, by God, show me someone who believes that it isn’t and will back it the fuck up, and I’ll vote for him. I don’t care if s/he is a purple-spotted ape and a Commie, to boot. As long as they recognize that the GDMFSOBing Taliban were the primary fucking enabler of whatever they call that band of Islamic death-dealers AND that every bearded one of them needs to die of rapid-onset lead poisoning.

By gum, this kind of poli-sci-diplo-idiocy steams my Jacksonian ass right up. I hope it does yours, too, but somehow I really doubt it. Shoot, that 9/11 thing was five whole seasons of American Idiot ago. Let’s do some jaw-jawing with the mullahs and see if we can’t get back to the end of history once more, for a few years, anyway, until I die, at least. Start spending our days worrying about politicians abusing their power of office again, since that’s so GDMFSOBing shinily new and different. Let’s all stick our heads right straight up our own asses again and pooh-pooh the Taliban running an entire damn country. That was fun times, no?

No?

Why didn’t I think of this?

Most hilarious news of the day of this week — a bobble-head Mohammed:

The unapologetic creator, Timothy Ames, 28, said the bobblehead is similar to “dashboard Jesus” figurines that can be stuck with adhesive to flat surfaces. “I thought, ‘If they flipped out over some cartoons what will they do with a dashboard Muhammed?’” Ames said from his home in Hawaii.

Our budding & brilliant entrepreneur is a Marine. Semper Fi, sir (if I may be allowed.)

Naturally, the stupid newspaper fails to provide a link to the online sale, or mine would be on the next truck off the dock. And equally naturally, the stupid newspaper digs up a few random eggheads to wag their disapproving scholarly fingers:

“No depiction of the prophet, even if it is positive, should be made ever - and certainly not one as ridiculous as the bobblehead Muhammed,” said Zvi Ben-Dor Benite, an assistant professor at New York University. “I don’t think it’s about freedom of speech. This is the freedom to insult, which he shouldn’t be doing.

Frank Peters, a professor in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at NYU, warned that a bobblehead Muhammed was “a really bad idea.”

“Jews and Christians have gotten used to this kind of thing, but Muslims haven’t,” he said. “This may not be his intention, but these things have consequences.

My emphasiseseses, and piss on ‘em, anyway. When their hayseeds write a song about plastic Mohammed, I’ll rescind that last.
