Ruby’s – Welcome
Posted by TFG on 10th April 2006
Ahh, Ruby’s…a blast from my past, thanks to Donald Pittenger at 2Blowhards. I was a frequent customer at the location in Marina Del Rey back in the midle 80s. I recall hungover Saturday & Sunday mornings, vast omelettes with bottomless cups of coffee and a good solid hour of girl-watching, California-style. Quite the eye-opener for the hayseed from Texas, all those predatory sleek lassies with their zoomy sportscars, and their unvaryingly fugly rich boyfriends with toupees and hair-plugs. And gold — lots of gold. Truly the place where it totally hit home that there is another half, and they are seriously different from us.
Last time I was out that way, I drove through MDR to check out the changes. Alas, that Ruby’s was gone. In it’s place was another office building / boat dock. However, Killer Shrimp was still there. If you’re ever in El Lay, do yourself a favor and make the time to go and give them a try. It’s very simply the best bowl of shrimp you’ll ever eat. I’ve tried to duplicate it a hundred times, and never even came close.
