Catching Up, Blog-Wise

More to come throughout the day. I hope you’re not too inconvenienced or Katrina-fatigued. It’s not like you’re here for brilliant insight, anway.

  • Michelle Catalano’s Kids of Katrina : school supplies. Brilliant long term thinking…didn’t occur to me. Anyone who wants to link to this so that I may come up with more people to help out either here on Long Island or in either BR or Houston, or more donations, or people who may get the idea to start this in their own towns, please link to THIS post. Some DFW companero needs to run with this.
  • Help the animals : from the Frontburner, Teams from the Humane Society have rushed to the devastated areas and are rescuing pets and finding shelters for them. Many of the animals have come from the Superdome area, but they’ve also collected dogs from families who had to leave pets on the side of the highway when they boarded buses headed to Dallas and Houston. Another one of those areas that didn’t even occur to me until now. Man, being forced to leave your dog on the side of the road…don’t know if I could do it, not even to save my own life. My kids, sure. Mine? Well…
  • For my card-playing peeps, there are literally tons of in-kind poker tournaments: Royal Vegas, Full Tilt (who employs about 1/2 of all the poker bloggers in California), PokerStars, Party Poker. Great idea, and a great way to sharpen up your tourney chops while helping out some good people.
  • If you’re one of our friends on the Left, there’s a Left/Liberal blog donation challenge dealio. I personally doubt that someone needing help gives a rat’s ass about your poli-sci theories, but if it makes you feel better, by all means, gogogogo. Dollars are green, bud, not red or blue.

    Hi,

I’m trying to get the word out about a charity tournament for the victims of Hurricane Katrina on Royal Vegas Poker (www.royalvegaspoker.com). The tournaments is being held tonight at 9 p.m. EST. It’s a $25 buy-in and 50% of the prize pool is going to the relief effort. Could you please help in getting the word out by posting something on your blog. Thanks so much.

Oh yeah. I read about that Royal Vegas tourney. There are a lot of them going on, but I heard Lou Krieger is playing in this one as well and has a $100 dollar bounty on his head that goes to the American Red Cross. I think I read that whoever knocks him out gets an autographed copy of his new book too.
