Bidness News

Posted by TFG on 4th August 2005

These always crack me up:

Retailers reported mixed results in July as hot weather boosted sales of air conditioners and shorts but wilted demand for early fall items like sweaters.

Even now at 45 years old, with a slightly better understanding of logistics, I don’t understand why any store in the US would put sweaters on the racks in July. They do it every year, and every year, I read this kind of blurb. Sweaters. And we still have to get through August. But be sure to stock up on your long-sleeved flannel shirts NOWNOWNOW.

Worse, they take away the hawaiian shirts. Can’t find one.

BIG DIFF UPDATE: And now I’m Denver for a morning meeting tomorrow, and it’s 61°…40° difference from when I parked the truck at the airport. I’m gonna go outside and stay outside…maybe it’ll snow or something.

Understanding

I now grok the whole RSS & BlogLines thing. The interface is so butt-ugly. you don’t want to spend your time surfing blogs. Yes, I’m back to trying out RSS, mainly to shut down the time-wasting. I’ve got a bad habit of wandering around and wasting valuable time.

I guess I’m one of the last guys on earth to appreciate good web design and how it’s applied to blogs, but I sure do. One of the enjoyable aspects of blogging, besides having the chance to tell everybody exactly how & why the cow eats the cabbage, is seeing how people fancy up their joints. RSS reduces all of that back to the old yellow-on-black TTY terminal look for every single thing on the internets (except it’s black-on-white, like an old Mac, but you dig what I mean if you’re old enough.)

Well, one good thing: it surely does lessen the desire to surf for a couple of hours.
