Marg Madness

I got treated to a most excellent evening last night with Kevin and Callie. Not only did we have pre- and post-prandial beers at the West Alabama Icehouse, but we had quite possibly the best margaritas on Earth at the Spanish Village Restaurant. The #47 Enchiladas-a-la-Taylor platter was excellent, too. A return is guaranteed next time I’m in town with a Yankee who needs some authentic Tex-Mex. The Icehouse is probably the greatest bar I’ve ever been to in Houston. It’s the kind of place I would build for my own self, complete with one-ton smoker, covered stage, random dogs walking around, and 400 picnic tables.
Political chatter was held to a minimum, thankfully, with the majority of the talk being about the goofy media that infests both of our locales. And I think that, by the end of the night, Kevin and I planned a) a kayaking trip to the Ozarks, b) a Halloween weekend group campout to string together the free wi-fi at the Tiny Bidness, and c) an eight-day backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail. We also re-kindled our long-running argument over who’s better: Jay Farrar and Son Volt, or Jeff Tweedy and Wilco.* Beers and margs, eh?
* I’m in the Tweedy/Wilco camp, and their latest doesn’t do much to help me hold up my end of the argument. I think he wins this round, just because Wilco has contracted what’s known as the Spinal Tap Six Flags Syndrom…a hankering to play stuff that is 180° from what got them where they are. Oh, well. AM is still an awesome album, period.
P.S. I promised Callie this, a pic of the Amazing Speck — definitely not a huskie:
