Memorial Day

Posted by TFG on May 30th, 2005

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
- George Orwell

This short and simple quote has stuck with me since the day I first read it. Today, we honor the ones who died doing violence on our behalf. Because they are dead, we can only honor them through words & deeds. This is humbling, as there is simply no way to express the depths of my gratitude with mere words. All I can do is say it, and then pray that my deeds make me & mine worthy of their sacrifice.

My birthday is on June 6, the anniversary of D-Day, My grandfather who fought in WW2 always stressed the importance of the day that changed the world for the better. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the men and women who serve our country, I just wish that we would pay them more for their service, I still get a lump in my throat when I think about all that they and their families have sacrificed.
