Mavs Win
Posted by TFG on May 7th, 2005
Cuban made a big mistake firing off the confetti cannons. Pretty silly for a first round playoff series win. I really wish he would remove himself from the bench, too. Even when he’s just standing there next to the NBA greyhounds, he looks…spastic.
TEEVEE UPDATE: I forgot to mention how much I enjoy the work of Bob Ortegel, Mavs tv analyst. I am a basketball idiot, but Ortegel does an excellent job explaining the game, the players, and the situation to schmoes like me.

It wasn’t a surprise.
Houston is suck.
Off topic — I saw a BBQ contraption at the Icehouse tonight that will blow your mind. Photos to follow at some point. You won’t believe this thing. It oughta be worth an Icehouse roadtrip just to behold it.

C’mon — 30 point win? That’s shocking — nothing about this series would have suggested that was in the works. I tell you what…Yao Ming is the next Shaq Diesel. That man’s potential is huge. Or so says Mr. NBA Dumbass here.
I’m so ready for a roadtrip…

Err, umm, 40 points.
But that sort of thing’s not shocking to Houston sports fans. Aside from Rudy T’s two-year run at the height of Hakeem’s career (and without MJ aside), we are used to spectacular failures from our sports teams.
And I don’t put Yao in the Shaq/Hakeem class. Good serviceable center who can do some unique things for sure, and certainly no Shawn (Sean?) Bradley, but I just don’t see him taking over games like those guys.
But hell, I don’t even claim to be a Rockets fan, let alone an NBA fan. What the hell do I know?
I know my UH Cougars struggled mightily to beat a bad Saint Louis baseball team last night, in 13 innings, notching 21 strikeouts in the process. That was better to watch than Rockets.

I swear on a stack of Bibles I watched that game and went to bed thinking it was a 30 point win. Good grief. No wonder I’m struggling everywhere in my life — my brain is turning into dishwash liquid.
As you can tell, I’m only a Mavs fan at the playoff time. I think I watched 5 games all year, and that’s because the damn NHL is off pouting somewhere in Canada. Yao mainly impresses me with his power moves on offense and his defense. His move to the Hakeem level is totally dependent on his coaching and his coachability. I mainly know, though, that I’d love to have a redwood like that in a Mavs uniform. At playoff time, of course.

Well, some of us are used to this kind of results… however it’s not easy to take for everubody. Just be supportive to your team, man!
