Mr. Mac Head
Posted by TFG on 18th April 2005
We’re now a three OS household here at TFG HQ. Today is the boy’s 13th birthday, and I reckoned it was time to get him something that wasn’t built from Frankenstein leftover parts. So after much consideration, we bought him an Apple iBook. It’s the little one, but he seems happy with it.
We just got it home, and now I’m getting the wireless configured and downloading all the updates. Huh — whaddaya know? 200 megs of updates…sounds suspiciously like every other OS on the planet, even that hated crappy one from Redmond. And what’s this? A whole new OS upgrade. For $129??? Good gravy, he’s outdated before the wrapping is even off the package. What kind of company does that to it’s customers?
Just kidding. I purposely timed the purchase to what other Macheads have said is the Window of Leniency. I hear that I can get the new OS for free or cheap, so whatever.
Anyhoo, all you Mac freaks leave me alone. Yall scare me. I thought the kid at CompUSA was going to jump out of his skin when I told him I wanted to buy one — practically followed me to the truck thanking me and telling me what a wonderful computer I’d just bought and here’s my cell phone if you need to call for help, and, and, and. I think I might have clipped him with my bumper trying to get away…it looked kind of bloody in the rear-view, but you know rear-views…
