Salesman talks political theory

As if you needed another dose of meta hot-air, right? This came up in an email convo I’ve been having:
if the state were trying to kill a death row murderer, of course, and he had suffered such representation, you can imaging how the left would be howling.
but in this case, it’s just kill kill kill kill.
I don’t get their passion for killing this woman. it’s bizarre.
My response:
I think the passion comes from the desire to isolate the judges and make them impermeable and unassailable on these civil law issues. Let’s face it — if they can stay strong and kill someone because of hearsay (which they’ve now done), then there’s NO issue that isn’t fair game for state courts. And it is so easy to find a loophole in the rat’s nest of laws out there, then find a bright-boy to try it, and then convince one guy to rule in your favor. Much, much easier than it is to convince your fellow voter-citizens. And if they fail to convince, well, they just go back and file another case next week.
Imagine Soros-type money involved in this, along with unwitting actors like: the ACLU, lots of hippy-dippy law school students with time on their hands and access to the greatest law libraries in the world,
academic bozos providing “expert” opinion, &c. Maybe I’m a paranoid wingnut, or maybe it’s not obvious, but it’s plain as day to me.
And that’s where I think all these Rule-of-Law Republicans are being so short-sighted that they’re now cross-eyed. I don’t think I’m paranoid, because all you have to do is listen to the lefty rhetoric and how it changes overnight. Fifty fookin’ years of trashing states’ rights without a fare-thee-well, and just this week they discovered the joys of federalism and the notion of individual rights? Give me, and 290MM other Americans, a break. I know a bluff bet when I see one, son.
HERE’S PROOF UPDATE: Coming through with flying colors is Jim Bob Wolcott, last referenced in these pages on November 3 or thereabouts, when he asked for instructions on how to tie a noose. So he could kill himself, see? Because Bush won the election? Never mind…ancient history. To everyone’s relief, Jim Bob did not follow through, but instead sank into a deep Blue (heh) funk for a few hours. He emerged on the other side with a completely unmasked hatred of anyone owning a Bible or a gun AND a voter registration card. “There’s never going to be an easy way to adjudicate these matters, and it would be characteristic of Republicans to pack something as Lifetime-cable sounding as “Terri’s Law” with all sorts of mischief.”
He didn’t go on to say “So don’t even try to do something democratic like passing a law, you lousy Jesus-shouters! Leave my judges and my courts alone!” because he really is a very talented writer, practically the next Mencken.
NB: I completely forgot to put up the link to Steve Sailer that kicked off the email…shame on me, as it’s central to the point.

I think that is a big part of it. I also think there is also a love of cruel superficiality. (Lacy Peterson had a beautiful smile but Terri looks awful in those videos).
Two other items that are at work (IMHO) that i am trying to get my mind around: alot of the pro-Schiavo side is uncomfortable with the claim of blood kin (think Gene Hackman in Wyatt Earp). They don’t want to see that parents may have a deeper love for this woman than the husband INO. They are also uncomfortable with being “judgemental” toward Michael Sciavo so they don’t want to admit that his adulterous behavior might compromise his memory, honesty, and decision-making.

I just can’t imagine that superficiality would ever be a determinant to killing somebody. My God. That, my friend, is literally horrifying
I think you’re on to something about blood kin. I think it’s really frightening to some people that parents could love their child so much. Let me share a little secret with you: Bob Schindler is a saint and his patience, grace, and Christian tolerance is on a level that I can only aspire to. I am almost 100% certain that Michael Schiavo would be dead by gunshot and I would be in the hoosegaw long ago if he were my son-in-law. The man is a hero to all fathers. I’ve been rolling it around in my head, and I’m wiped out by trying to imagine what he’s going through. I’m literally unable to post on this matter right now, because I cannot do it enough justice. Except maybe frontier justice.

I don’t think that the superficiality led to the death (well, except maybe for Michael). But i do think it has something to do with the way the polls run right now. (I think that will change over time.)
About your last point. Say that something like that happened in a some rural country. The sheriff investigates and says no crime was committed. The grand jury agrees.
Think our wonderful law bloggers would say— “state matter. proper procedures followed. No need for the FBI to investigate.”

Oh, hell, no. They’d probably even get it classified as a hate crime so they could try it in Federal court.
And I’m not even saying I shouldn’t go to prison for murdering somebody. I should. Try me and fry me, even, for it would be cold-blooded and with malice aforethought.
But to put it in simpler words, better to be tried by twelve than (have my daughter) be carried by six.

I have never been a big euthanasia fan, and was appalled by this kill, kill, kill thing long before I found out I had cancer.
But now it hits even closer to home, and I finally had to speak out. I even posted something on my Live Journal (which is very uncharacteristic of me).
I don’t think this bodes well for my future, and yes, I’m being very selfish right now.

This whole thing is making me sick and crazy. The idea that three hours’ drive from where I live the state-sanctioned excrutiating slow death by thirst of a harmless woman the same age as I am is going on. I’d move out of Florida but where could I go? It’s not like any other state is any better.

That’s because it IS sick and crazy. It’s something out of a bad AP English class by the kid that grows up to be a serial killer. I haven’t had one good night’s sleep in over a week now.
Fel, it’s right to be selfish. God helps those who help themselves. Selfishness is ‘bad’ when or if it hurts someone else, but we have to take care of our own business first.
