Tough Loss
Posted by TFG on January 24th, 2005
I’m feeling bad for my pard, Craig, with the Steelers loss. It was a fairytale season, with Ben Mumbleerger at the QB, and I really thought they had a shot at beating the Pats. In fact, and this is heresy in Dallas, I was pulling for the Steelers to win it all.
As far as the NFC, it’s just an(other) opportunity for Philly to fall flat on their face. I didn’t think the Michael Vicks would get past them this week, since the game was in Philly, outdoors, in the cold.
I’m not sure how I feel about the Super Bowl. I guess I’d like to see the Philberts win, if only for McNabb alone. McNabb is probably my favorite QB in the NFL, and his success would please me. Winning without Terrell Owens’ ginormous ego hogging up all available limelight would be nice, too, but it’s unlikely to shut him up completely. However, the dark cloud of failure that has hung over Philly fans for as long as I can remember is always enjoyable, in a Cowboys fan kind of way. But as the poor sisters in the NFC East, Lombardi Trophy-wise, I’ll give them one out of the pure-dee goodness of my heart. I’ve mellowed with age.
But I still wish it was the Steelers.

Thanks for the sympathy. Over all, it was a great year. It’s just that i am sick of watching my power football team lose big games because we call touch passes in enemy territory.
The worst of the nightmares from SB XXX had just about ended and then i get to watch a replay last night.
And i’m still not sure how we got stuffed on fourth and one.

Any old-time NFL team against any AFL team….better treasured old enemies than the wanna-be league. Can you tell how old THIS Cowboy fan is?

For some odd reason, I kept referring to Michael Vick as Vince Young yesterday.

As I sat watching my beloved Steelers choke in the big game yet again, I couldn’t even get that upset about it. It upsets me more that I’ve come to expect them to blow it when it really matters.
Ah, well, as I’ve said for the past 25 years, just wait ’till next year.

I remember when the Steelers boasted “One for the thumb in ‘81″ referring to an anticipated fifth Super Bowl ring. Twenty four years later they are still looking for that thumb ring.
