Is There Hope?

Posted by TFG on January 25th, 2005

Maybe, if you want to believe the FrontBurner, chronicler of all things chronicle-worthy in Dallas. No, this isn’t celebrity drinking news, celebrity boobs, celebirty restaurants, or fellow journalist celebrity-making, it’s hockey news.

There’s no question that I’m extra-depressed this winter with no hockey. And I’m sad to say, that if/when they come back, I’ll still be a fan. Not quite as much of a fan, but a still a fan. Jeez, I used to pay to see the Freeze in the stock-barn at the Fairgrounds. And I’d do it again, if I could.

* It only took four tries to get this posted.

I figure that a sport that was heading to having a season that a) lasted longer than a calendar year and b) had playoffs with almost every team in them that lasted damn near as long is doomed.

And as a person subjected to the whims of the CRTC (the FCC writ even more stupid and arbitrary), it’s kind of nice not to have half of our “allowed” stations(read: Canadian whiny baby broadcasters who insist they’re saving our culture from the big bad Americans by re-broadcasting the worst of US network TV plus bad Canadian programming) not absorbed night after night by hockey.

Another reason to give me DTV on the grey market….

I take it you’re not a hockey fan, Jane?
