Liberian President Renews Pledge to Quit

Does anyone else find any semantic problem with this headline? Or is it just me?

HumongousCo Reminder

Posted by TFG on 26th July 2003

Denny Wilson does a fine job of reminding me why those big, safe companies really beat my ass down:

I’m a cripple ya know.

And the man actually typed the letters RACF into the innerweb in his follow-on post. Who knows what RACF is, by show of comments? If there are 10 people who can type into the innernut the words behind that acronym, well, I’ll give you all a free weekend of primitive camping, with a case of Keystone Light to go with it.

RUReady?

Posted by TFG on 26th July 2003

I can’t believe this snuck up on me, but it’s time to start preparing for Fantasy Football. I’m in my usual league, the one that is nothing but a snakepit of belly-crawling lawyers who all work together and scratch each others’ backs over lunch and coffee in the Hallways of Justice. They make Jimmy Johnson and the Vikings look like a tea party put together out of Winnie the Pooh cartoons. The ol’ Gamblers are sure to suck mightily once again, as I waste all my hours in the day changing sheets, or looking for a real job.

CALL ME CLUELESS UPDATE: Dallas has Monday Night game this year? Why? Jerry must have twisted some arms back at Corporate. The good news is we get that damn BYE week out of the way early, when I will still have paying customers. But good grief — we’ve got Miami on Turkey Day! Who else remembers El Gato Grande screwing up and flubbing our God-given TD W that year? The Hated Redskins are up in early November, but we finish the year against the Hated…Saints? Who hates the Saints? I love the Saints and I love New Orleans. Ooo, ooo…it’s an away game! Eff Christmas - I’m gonna be in the Quarter and at Harrah’s, keeping a sharp eye out for Jerruh. I’m betting he needs a sharp-as-tacks IT guru to guide him through all this mouseover crap.

Not From Texas…

Posted by TFG on 26th July 2003

…but you surely have to like a band named Two Cow Garage. Or so says Cindy, anyway, and she’s got the hi-speed interweb, so I’m sure she’s downloaded all the MP3s. I’m looking forward to hearing them when I get back to Big D. They’re playing at Woody’s tonight in Cow Town, so go check ‘em out. Tell ‘em The Fat Guy sent you, and groove on their puzzled looks.

Oh, and boys? Don’t make me dig into a damn PDF file to find out important fan info, like where you’re from.

Paddle, paddle, paddle

Posted by TFG on 26th July 2003

I just spent an hour with my kayak man on the river, and man! Is that some fun! Before this morning, I had never kayaked. Now I know why Eric & Gretchen love it so much. It’s so peaceful. And it’s easy here on the lazy ol’ Brazos. I drank a beer! I smoked a cigarette! I didn’t tip over once! Gretchen calls it “water therapy,” and it’s true.

If I ever get a job again, I’m buying two: one for me, and one for The Wife. Even if I have to force her at gunpoint, she’s gonna do this. If I can manage it, surely a former lifeguard can do it.

Well, back to the laundry and the dishwashing. I just wanted to tell you about that, and recommend it to you.

Tour de Lance

Posted by TFG on 26th July 2003

There’s some pretty compelling sport coming up here early on a Saturday. Lance Armstrong has, after 3 weeks of pedalling, a 65 second leader over the Kraut, Jan Ullrich. This is about the last chance for Ullrich to catch Lance, or so the experts say. And if that wasn’t enough, it’s raining, so goodness knows what’s gonna happen.

You can catch it all live on the Outdoor Life Network, #608 on DirecTV.

SHINER UPDATE: “Beers are on me.” That’s what Lance just said in his post-race teevee interview. It’s a shame it was raining, and that Ullrich took a spill. It would have been more dramatic, and who knows how the numbers would have worked out in dry conditions? But that’s the breaks, I guess. Here’s hoping some of his Austin home-boys shipped over a few cases of Shiner Bock.
