Fun with Young People

8Bit Joystick.com

To sum things up, Used CDs Rule! They are a great legal way to get new music ( to you at least ) at a much lower price than new CDs at Wal-Mart.*

I do so love it when the youth of our land make such startling discoveries as this. The Used CD store, the half-price book store, the Goodwill clothing store, the Salvation Army furniture store. “Dude! I got three Jay-Z t-shirts for 9 bucks!” I’m just left to wonder what kind of life you had where you grew up NOT knowing that people re-sold things they didn’t want to other people. I hope the poor thing doesn’t ever hear about Garage Sales.

* The above is in bold at the original joint, BTW.

Yahoo! News - Sharon Stone and Husband to Divorce

Sharon Stone (news) and her husband, San Francisco Chronicle Executive Editor Phil Bronstein, are divorcing.

Bronstein cited irreconcilable differences in his petition for divorce, filed Thursday in San Francisco County Superior Court. A copy of the document was obtained by “Entertainment Tonight.”
Stone, 45, and Bronstein, 52, who married on Feb. 14, 1998, said in a statement the dissolution was “amicable and mutual.” They have a 3-year-old son, Roan.

If I were single, my pants would be going berserk right now. BUT…

Why are people over 40 having kids? Don’t they have any idea how much energy that requires? I guess if you’re rich, you can hire nannies and butlers and stuf, though. Still seems kind of silly.

Shucks

Billmon

It’s easy to argue that Dana has only stopped ignoring what can no longer be ignored: i.e. that the Iraq occupation has turned into a first-class fiasco. But before you judge him and his colleagues, try to understand what it’s like covering the White House: It’s the closest thing the American political system has to Orwell’s Room 101.
I was never an accredited White House correspondent myself, but I spent enough time hanging around the place to get a feel for what it’s like.

Durn. I thought Billy was a regular guy, but he appears to be another capital-J journalist. I hope I’m wrong, but it appears not. He uses a rasslin’ photo to reinforce his point. Sigh.

Repent!

local6.com - News - Lightning Strikes Preacher Who Asked For Sign

Don’t tell ME there is no God…

Damage to a church in Forest, Ohio, is estimated at $20,000 after a preacher asked God for a sign.
A member of the First Baptist Church said a guest evangelist was preaching repentance and seeking a sign from God when lightning struck the steeple.
Ronnie Cheney called the incident “awesome, just awesome!”

…and He’s saying “Get out of the preaching business, if I’ve got to do all the work for you. Loser.”

Redistricting Rehash

Posted by TFG on 3rd July 2003

Is there anyone on the face of the earth that can get worked up about re-districting like a Democrat fixing to find himself on the short end of the stick? Not me, that’s for sure.*

The Republicans are running into several problems in putting together a map that enough of them like. VRA concerns are paramount, since any map they come up with will surely be challenged in court, but there are other issues they have to work through as well. For one thing, there are concerns about communities of interest, which as the Statesman mentions means they may have to pick and choose their targets:

And onward it goes, for about 600 paragraphs. I don’t mean to pick on the Kuff, but good lord. Of course it’s gonna screw somebody. Of course some good people are gonna lose out. Of course there will be gerrymandering. Of course VRA is gonna be a concern. Big stinkin’ deal. No matter what stripe of pol ends up being on top, they’re all gonna bend you over the table and slip it to you with no grease.

I love the idealism of hard-liners in either party, but I laugh at them, too. They are, each in their own way, convinced that off-the-wall crap, like redistricting, is gonna make a GD bit of difference to the regular stroke out here in the world. Erm…no. It won’t. They’re all working together to find ways to take the money you’ve earned through your hard work and give it to someone else somewhere else.

For me, give me the Reeps every time. If I’m gonna pay taxes, I wanna see it go to massive defense and highway and space and ag projects. That money trickles down to the Common Man Joe Stroke, and that’s who makes this country go.

I just realized that what I meant to say was this:
If you really want to stay on top of the redistricting baloney, go see Off the Kuff.

“Bring ‘Em On”

Posted by TFG on 3rd July 2003

For all the Lefties having the vapors over GWB’s latest pronouncement:

My response, basically, is that what the President said was merely an expression of absolute confidence in our military personnel, as well as predictable frustration with the tactics of Iraqi terrorists and Saddam loyalists. I hardly think that he was “goading” terrorists; rather, wouldn’t it be better to get them to expose themselves so that we can deal with them directly, rather than allow them to scurry like cockroaches, hidden from view, hiding in the dark?

The man who wrote that is a soldier, so think (if that’s possible) before you start your (sadly, predictably, moronically) normal bullshit hand-waving.

U.S. Puts $25M Bounty on Saddam Hussein

You know, I’m not doing anything these days. I’ve got some AAdvantage Miles, and some Marriott Rewards points, and a couple hundred bucks left in the checking account. Got some guns. Need some ammo, though. And a translator. And a map, too, probably. Sure is tempting.

Small Test For You

Posted by TFG on 3rd July 2003

You are in your vehicle. You are on private property. You see a sign that says

No Vehicles Past This Point
$50 Towing Fee

Do you parse this to mean:
a) Do not drive past this point.
b) Vehicles are requested to not go past this point, pretty please.
c) You are allowed to go past this point, since it doesn’t mention you by name.
d) It is a challenge to see if you can go past this point without requiring a tow.

Guess which two are the most popular answers here at The Tiny Bidness.

Where’s that HotMetal?

Posted by TFG on 3rd July 2003

So who can direct me to a good Adobe GoLive tutorial? Or tell me why I shouldn’t bother with it? Or give me an alternative that’s not FrontPage, or anything close?

I’m looking for something that’s relatively light-weight, and doesn’t break all kinds of web server specs (like damnable FP.) I built the Tiny Bidness website in FP, and I regret it everytime I have to fire it up to work on it. That’s one reason I’m looking for something new, WYSIWYG HTML editor-wise.
